"Do you know when you need to compartmentalize your life? When you forgot the last time you travel somewhere other than for business. When you never leave the office earlier than 8. When it’s been two years since the last time you take a long leave of absence. When all of your relationships went down the drain. When you don’t even have the time to learn to drive. When you forgot the last time you went on a real date. When you shop more than ever, justifying it by saying shopping is a therapy. When you have time for everyone but yourself. When the last thing that you did before you go to sleep is going through next day’s meeting in your head instead of messaging or calling your loved ones. When the only private time you have is plugging your ears with headphones, listening to iPod as you close your eyes on the way to and from work everyday. When the only time you’re home is when you sleep and take a bath..."
From Antologi Rasa - Ika Natassa.
I just love that novel! Such a no-barrier urban novel with a strong characters built by the author.
The story is about Keara, Harris and Ruly goes with their love triangle. What if in the person that you love, you find a best friend instead of a lover?
Keara
is a single, late 20ist (if L'm not mistaken) women working as a
bankers (just like me :p). Though there’s a lil bit of Keara in every
woman. The
fact that she’s smart yet she’s confused sometimes, or the fact that
she knows what she wants but she simply doesn’t know how to get there,
and the way her heart and her mind are colliding into each other when
making decisions.
Harris is describe as a player, early 30ist guy, Keara's office mate and partner in crime. A typically bad-boy, the
chauvinistic bastard who date as many girls as he can, but also a
really best friend at the pouring rain. I can sense a jerk in every
words coming from his mouth, the sweetest words which could easily said
by those kind of guys to fool us, women! But i couldn't fake the warm
feeling when he came as your best friend, the one who always stood there
for you, laugh out loud over the night with you or simply wipe your
tears, saying "don't worry, everything gonna be ok.."
Ruly
is a smart-cool guy. A non-conversationalist -the one who prefer listen
than talk-. An athlete want to be but unfortunately ended up as a
bankers. "Do you see my car parks over there? By being an athlete in
Indonesia, I
surely couldn't afford to pay that car, pay my monthly apartment
payment located at the heart of this city, pay my credit cards bills
which i almost forget for what i spent it for..." Well there it goes,
another someone's dream that have to throw away to the deepest of the
sea just to be a 'normal-realistic-people' fulfilling their needs.
What i love about this novel is there are some massages the author want to tell:
1.
you can close your eye for the things you do not want to see, you can
cover your ear for the words you do not want to hear, BUT you can not
shut your heart for the feeling you do not want to feel.
2.
money can't buy a happiness, but someone will. At the end, you have to
choose your own happiness, like everybody do. Looking back to the
several years ago, hangin' here and there with all of your friends was
the only things that made you happy. But, someday there may be the time
when the only things that will make you happy is sitting at the park
with your husband and kid(s) :)
3.
Happily ever after does not always exist! sometimes you have to learn
to let go the things you never reach for. Not because you gave it up,
instead u've done trying but that things wasn't work it out.
cheers,
